How To Make Hummingbird Food Recipe Easy

Share post:

We can all admit it: hummingbirds are magical creatures. They give the impression that they are dancing in the air, lightning-like little winged cheetahs. Attract these beauties by hanging the manger that you will have made and filled with homemade food.

1. Make a sugar-rich solution to attract hummingbirds to your garden.

The sweetness of a sweet mixture will encourage them to stick around. Energy-rich food is also important for hummingbirds in the spring, as it helps them recover the energy they spent during migration.

Avoid buying nutrient-boosted hummingbird nectar. It will cost you money that you don’t need to spend, and hummingbirds won’t really benefit either. Hummingbirds get all the nutrients they need from the nectar in the flowers and the insects they eat: the sweet mixture you give them is a snack for them (like a cup of coffee for us) when they fly and fly. feel tired.

2. Mix a solution made of 1/3 granulated white sugar and 2/3 hot water.

Stir the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cane sugar is a saccharose that belongs to the category of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are easily digested and give
hummingbirds the immediate energy they need to keep their little wings flapping.

3. Boil this sugar water for one or two minutes.

Boiling the water will slow down any growth of bacteria. It will also remove excess chlorine and fluorine from your tap (which could harm little hummingbirds). It is not necessary to boil the solution if you are only making a small amount of food to eat right away.

  • If you do not boil the mixture, you will need to change the food after a day or two, otherwise, the bacteria could proliferate and harm hummingbirds.

4. Do not add any coloring.

Even though hummingbirds are attracted to the color red, red dyes are known to harm hummingbirds. Natural hummingbird food (nectar) is odorless and crystal clear: you don’t need to add coloring to your homemade food.

5.Store hummingbird food until you are ready to use it.

Keep it in the fridge. If you are making a large amount of food, you can keep the excess in the refrigerator until the feeder is empty. This will save you time when you refill the feeder.

6. Choose the right feeder.

Red feeders are best because the red color attracts hummingbirds. You should hang your feeder in a shaded place, as the nectar will stay fresh longer if it is in the shade. Hang your feeder in the garden if you have one. Hang it near the window (but not within the reach of cats) to be able to enjoy these beautiful little birds.

  • Some hummingbird lovers say that it is better to hang a feeder near a window only if you have bird cutouts on the glass to avoid hummingbirds bumping into this glass and injuring themselves.
